Vision Engineer (m/f/d) Industrial Robotics & Automation

Germany, Munich (HQ)
Full-time
Permanent employee

About the role

The Industrial Automation & Robotic Applications Department of Agile Robots is looking for a Vision Engineer (m/f/d) Industrial Robotics & Automation, who will own the 2D/3D perception pipeline for an industrial robotics use case, turning camera and depth input into data the deployed system can act on.

Your Responsibilities

  • Perception Pipeline: Build and maintain the vision algorithm and pipeline that turns camera and depth input into data that the robot system can act on.
  • Calibration: Own multi-camera and depth-sensor calibration, keeping perception output accurate as the physical setup changes.
  • Detection & Pose Estimation: Implement feature detection, registration, and pose estimation for the objects and workpieces relevant to the use case.
  • Feasibility Validation: Test the vision approach against the specific industrial use case at the proof-of-concept stage, before it moves toward confirmed delivery.
  • System Integration: Integrate the perception pipeline into the robot's software stack, coordinating with the engineers building motion, control, and hardware bring-up.
  • Use-Case Translation: Read the customer's real deployment conditions, such as lighting, occlusion and part variation, into concrete requirements that the pipeline has to handle.

Essential Skills

  • Educational Background: Degree in computer vision, robotics, or computer science, or an equivalent qualification combined with professional experience building applied vision systems.
  • Applied Vision: Experience implementing 2D/3D vision algorithms (calibration, feature detection, pose estimation) validated on real hardware.
  • Camera Data: Working understanding of multi-camera and depth-sensor data, including RGB, depth, and LiDAR sources, as inputs to a vision pipeline.
  • Software Engineering: C++ or Python experience applied to production-facing vision pipelines, not one-off research scripts.
  • Robotics Context: Working understanding of how a perception pipeline feeds into a robot's control and motion layers.

Beneficial Skills

  • Simulation: Familiarity with simulation environments such as Gazebo or Isaac Sim for testing a vision approach before hardware deployment.
  • ROS/ROS2: Experience with ROS or ROS2 for integrating perception output into a broader robotics software stack.
  • Industrial Deployment: Exposure to vision systems deployed in a customer-facing industrial or manufacturing setting.
